RICOH Coliseum, Toronto, Ontario

RICOH Coliseum

This long anticipated project provides Modern Niagara Toronto Inc. with the opportunity to participate in the renovation of one of Toronto's beautiful heritage buildings, previously known as the Coliseum at Exhibition Place. This facility has been a prominent figure on the Toronto lakeshore for over 80 years. The $38 million renovation will include $5.6 million in mechanical work, helping transform the building into a state of the art entertainment facility, while maintaining its historical significance and appearance as a striking lakeshore feature.

The renovation will include an increase in seating capacity from 6,500 to 10,000, the addition of 35 corporate suites, modern concession stands and a Club Lounge. The multi-purpose entertainment centre will be the new home for the Toronto Roadrunners Hockey Club (AHL), while continuing to host traditional activities such as the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair. The renovated facility will also accommodated other significant sporting and entertainment events including musical concert performances.

The 19,000 square metre Project will be managed by Scott Walden and supervised on site by Dave Bannerman and Jim Gilchrist, with a 15-man mechanical crew at the peak of construction. Modern Niagara's portion of the project involves a complete upgrade of all mechanical services under a design-build scenario, including all plumbing, fire protection, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems as well as a complete computer based Building Management and Control system.

The construction team is lead by the general contractor, PCL Constructors of Canada. The design team is lead by Parkin Architects and Brisbon, Brook, & Beyon Architects. The Mitchell Partnership is providing mechanical Design services in cooperation with Modern Niagara.
